DataSnipper Launches Alwin

DataSnipper has launched Alwin by DataSnipper, an agentic platform that can execute complete, multi-step audit and finance procedures from beginning to end.

The platform is designed to pull and process hundreds of documents from data sources and systems of record. DataSnipper stated that:

  • Every output is tied to a Snip in the source data.
  • Every step is logged.
  • Every conclusion can be traced to its origin.
  • Completed work can be returned as workpapers for professional review.
  • Professionals remain responsible for the judgment and sign-off portions of the work.

The company positioned Alwin as an extension of its existing automation capabilities, moving from individual tasks toward complete procedures while retaining the evidence and controls familiar to audit and finance professionals.

Alwin by DataSnipper

The name Alwin has a direct connection to DataSnipper’s origins.

The company stated that years ago, an auditor named Alwin sat with three friends in Amsterdam and described how much of his working life was being consumed by repetitive manual work. That conversation eventually became DataSnipper.

The platform was named after him as a reminder of the people doing the work and the purpose behind the technology.

Nicholas T. Robbins, Director, Audit and Accounting at FGMK, described his early experience with the platform:

“I immediately tried Alwin on some of our more difficult tasks, like hundreds of pages of GL extraction, and it worked really well,”

He added:

“It can also keep tasks running in the background and pick up right where you left off. What was genuinely impressive is that DataSnipper found a way to let us work outside of Excel while keeping it in a secure, contained environment.”

Vidya Peters, CEO at DataSnipper, described the platform as the next stage of the company’s work with audit and finance teams:

“For years, we’ve worked alongside audit and finance teams to automate manual work,”

Peters continued:

“Alwin is the next step: agents can now take on complete procedures, not just individual tasks, while the professional stays in control of the work that requires judgment. The future isn’t running autonomous audits. It’s giving professionals the capacity to do more of the work they trained for, without asking them to give up the evidence, oversight, and accountability their work demands.”

Alwin runs procedures end-to-end, defensibly

DataSnipper stated that Alwin brings its agentic automation from individual tasks to complete procedures, built around three core principles.

Execute complete procedures, end-to-end

Agents can perform multi-step work across:

  • Evidence collection
  • Verification
  • Reporting
  • Document processing
  • Workpaper preparation

The platform can process hundreds of documents, from planning the appropriate procedures through evidence collection, verification and reporting, before returning completed workpapers for review.

Make agentic work defensible

DataSnipper stated that conclusions remain connected to source evidence through Snips, with visibility into both agent and human changes.

The platform maintains a detailed audit trail designed to support review and preserve the evidence behind completed work.

Govern agents at firm scale

Alwin provides governance and review workflows that include:

  • An agent library
  • Granular controls over who can build, run and publish agents
  • Configurable review workflows throughout agent execution

DataSnipper stated that these controls are designed for the requirements of a regulated profession.

Lukas Homola, Manager of Internal Audit Methodology at BDO Czech Republic, said:

“Our team has already developed dozens of agents to test evidence across a range of audit procedures”

Homola added:

“Alwin gives us the potential to run this work in parallel in the cloud, reducing our reliance on manual Excel processes. Every result remains traceable to its source. That level of transparency is one of the reasons we chose DataSnipper, and it will only become more important as agents take on a greater role.”

Security and Traceability

DataSnipper stated that security and traceability are central to the way its platform operates.

The company said thousands of companies trust DataSnipper daily because its outputs have historically remained tied to their source inside the workpaper.

Alwin extends that approach to complete procedures. Agents can work across hundreds of files, carry processes from evidence collection through completed workpapers and return supporting evidence linked directly to each finding.

Early results show increased efficiency, quality and control

DataSnipper cited early results from organizations testing Alwin across audit and finance workflows.

At CROP Accountants & Advisers, a cash-testing workflow run through Alwin was approximately 80% faster, reducing work that previously required hours to minutes of agent run time followed by human review.

Gert-Jan Brouwer, Partner Accountancy at CROP Accountants & Advisers, said:

“Beyond these efficiency gains, we see an opportunity to bring our own guidance, templates, and working papers into Alwin, helping our teams work more consistently and increase quality,”

Brouwer added:

“Being part of the Design Partner Program has allowed us to work closely with DataSnipper and help shape that development.”

At Rehmann, testing across revenue transactions and inventory costs demonstrated additional potential applications.

Raul Villamil-Otero, Manager Assurance & Financial Reporting Strategic Business Partner at Rehmann, said:

“Alwin represents a significant step forward in how audit work can be performed. Through testing it across revenue transactions and inventory costs, I’ve seen how it can prepare the work, flag items for attention, and generate possible questions for the client. This has the potential to reshape the preparer role, giving staff an earlier exposure to the reviewer role and more time to investigate differences,”
